Why check safe zones?

TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts overlay their UI on top of your video โ€” like buttons, comments, descriptions, and navigation bars cover significant portions of the screen. If your product or call-to-action text falls under these elements, viewers can't see it. This tool lets you preview exactly what gets hidden before you publish.

Supported Platforms

  • TikTok โ€” Right-side action buttons, bottom caption area, top navigation.
  • Instagram Reels โ€” Heart, comment, share buttons and bottom description.
  • YouTube Shorts โ€” Like, dislike, comment buttons, subscribe bar, and title area.

How to use this tool

  • Upload or drag & drop your vertical video (9:16)
  • Select a platform to see its specific UI overlay
  • Play the video and check that key content stays in the safe zone
  • Switch between platforms to verify all three before publishing

FAQ

Common Questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?โ†“
No. Your video never leaves your browser. It's loaded locally using a blob URL and played directly in the HTML video player. Nothing is sent to any server.
What video format should I use?โ†“
MP4 (H.264) is the most widely supported format. WebM and MOV also work in most modern browsers. For best results, use a 9:16 vertical video โ€” the standard format for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.
Are the overlays exactly like the real apps?โ†“
The overlays are accurate approximations based on each platform's current UI layout. While platforms may update their interface slightly over time, the danger zones (right side buttons, bottom caption area, top bar) remain consistent.
What's the safe zone for all platforms?โ†“
As a general rule, keep important content in the center of the frame. Avoid the top 10%, bottom 25%, and the right 15% of the screen. These areas are consistently covered by UI elements across all three platforms.
Can I test with images instead of videos?โ†“
This tool is designed for video files. For static images, you can use our Aspect Ratio Cropper tool to ensure your images are in the correct 9:16 format, then screenshot-test them on each platform.
